I look forward to meeting each of you soon, but until then, I thought I'd tell you a little bit about myself. This year will be my 22nd year teaching in SCUSD and my 16th year at Sutter. I LOVE SUTTER! I used to teach 4th grade, and I certainly loved that age group, but I really love teaching 7th grade. Why? Well, mostly because 7th graders get my jokes =0) but also because they're so witty, funny, energetic, and eager to learn. My students make me laugh every single day. That's one of the reasons that I have the best job ever!
I know it's weird to imagine your teachers having personal lives, but we actually do! I'm married to a pretty wacky 6th grade teacher at Phoebe Hearst--Mr. Henrikson, and we have twin boys--Cameron and Andrew. My boys will be in the 6th grade at Phoebe Hearst Elementary this year. You'll hear lots of stories about them because they are pretty funny and always make me laugh (when they're not making me want to pull my hair out!). Our family had a really fun summer. In June we spent a week in beautiful Puerto Vallarta where we boogie boarded, went zip lining, got extremely muddy on an ATV adventure, went snorkeling, and even got a chance to hold monkeys! In July we went camping with my parents in Sly Park. We LOVE Jenkinson Lake and had a wonderful time hiking, swimming, and eating s'mores by the campfire. Finally, in August, we took our annual trip to the San Diego area to hang out with some friends of ours. This year we spent a day at Sea World and even took a tour of the USS Midway--that was really cool! In San Diego (Carlsbad, to be exact), we boogie boarded, ate a TON of delicious food, and I went for morning runs by the ocean. The rest of our summer was filled with other activities like bike rides, going to the library for armloads of books, playing in the pool, hiking, spending time with friends, and testing our nerves and balance on the ropes course at the Rocklin quarry.
Summers are great because my family gets to relax and play, but the school year is always much busier. When I'm not in the classroom, chances are, I'm either going to my boys' soccer games and practices, chauffeuring my kids from place to place, making dinner for the family, helping with homework, grading papers, and this year I'm taking piano lessons again! EEK! (I'm a bit nervous to start because I haven't taken lessons since my senior year in high school!) I also believe it's important to stay in shape, and I LOVE exercising! I also love going for LONG walks with my boys and our two dogs Harley and Gracie (I LOVE our pups--you'll learn that about me quickly!). When I want to veg out, I'm a sucker for reality television, and there's nothing better than having a good book to read.
I guess that's all for now, but I'm sure you'll get to know much more about me as the school year progresses. I can't wait to get to know more about you too!
See you soon!
