I look forward to meeting each of you soon, but until then, I thought I'd tell you a little bit about myself. This year will be my 20th year teaching in SCUSD and my 14th year at Sutter. I LOVE SUTTER!!! I used to teach 4th grade, and I certainly loved that age group, but I really love teaching 7th grade. Why? Well, mostly because 7th graders get my jokes =0), but also because they're so witty, funny, energetic, and eager to learn. My students make me laugh every single day. That's one of the reasons that I have the best job ever!
I know it's weird to imagine your teachers having personal lives, but we actually do! I'm married to a pretty crazy 6th grade teacher at Phoebe Hearst--Mr. Henrikson, and we have twin boys--Cameron and Andrew. My boys will be in the 4th grade at Phoebe Hearst Elementary this year. You'll hear lots of stories about them because they are pretty funny and always make me laugh (when they're not making me want to pull my hair out!). Our family had a really fun summer. We went camping in Oregon, spent a week at Lake Almanor and a day at Disneyland, did some boogie boarding in San Diego, played laser tag (I'm the reigning champ!), went rollerskating and bowling, did a little bit of hiking and a lot of swimming, and just enjoyed hanging out together.
Summers are great because my family gets to relax and play, but the school year is always much busier. When I'm not in the classroom, chances are, I'm either going to my boys' soccer or baseball games, making dinner for the family, or helping with homework. I also believe it's important to stay in shape, and I love working out! Most days I do a crossfit-style workout or Bikram yoga, and every so often I get bit by the running bug. I also love going for walks with my boys and our old dog, Katie. When I want to veg out, I'm a sucker for reality television, and I love when I have a good book to read.
I guess that's all for now, but I'm sure you'll get to know much more about me as the school year progresses. I can't wait to get to know more about you too!
See you soon!
